Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most iconic trekking experiences in the Himalayas—an unforgettable adventure that captures the very essence of trekking in Nepal. Designed by Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours, this 14-day Nepal trek guides you through some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes the country has to offer. Beginning in vibrant Kathmandu and moving through the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara, the trek gradually ascends from lush subtropical forests and terraced farmlands to the alpine sanctuary of the Annapurna Himalayas.

This remarkable Annapurna trekking journey offers panoramic views of towering Himalayan giants such as Annapurna I (8,091m), Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Gangapurna. Along the route, you’ll explore culturally rich Gurung and Magar villages, traverse rhododendron forests, relax in natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda, and reach the spectacular amphitheater of the Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130m. Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a first-time visitor to Nepal, the abc trek is a physically rewarding and spiritually enriching experience.

A Blend of Nature, Culture & Challenge
What sets Annapurna Base Camp Trekking apart is its harmonious balance between cultural immersion and natural beauty. Each step introduces you to the daily life of the Himalayan communities, and the journey itself unfolds like a story—from the rice terraces of Nayapul to the pristine wilderness of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trek is moderately challenging, with some steep ascents and rocky paths, but remains achievable for most with a good fitness level. Our expert guides from Rediscover Nepal ensure a safe, supportive, and personalized experience every step of the way.

Starting with a scenic drive or optional flight to Pokhara, the trek officially begins at Nayapul. From there, you'll ascend to Tikhedhunga and then Ghorepani, where an early morning hike to Poon Hill rewards you with a spectacular sunrise view over the entire Annapurna range. As you pass through Tadapani, Chhomrong, and the Himalaya Hotel, you’ll encounter picturesque trails, wooden bridges, and hidden waterfalls. At Annapurna Base Camp, surrounded by snow-capped peaks on all sides, the majesty of the Himalayas becomes humbling and surreal.

From Forest Trails to Snowy Peaks
As you ascend higher into the abc trekking route, the lush green trails give way to rocky alpine terrain. Depending on the season, you may walk through fields of blooming rhododendrons or snowy paths with frozen waterfalls, adding variety and beauty to the trek. Our professional guides monitor all trekkers for symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and provide continuous support to ensure a safe ascent.

The return journey is equally exciting. Descending through Bamboo, and later to Jhinu Danda, you get a chance to soak in the natural hot springs—an experience that offers both relaxation and reward after days of trekking. The trail then continues toward Pothana, and finally to Phedi, where a short drive returns you to Pokhara. This change in perspective as you descend allows for new photo opportunities, wildlife sightings, and cultural encounters, making every day unique.

Trek Tips & Travel Insights
Some helpful tips for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek: it's also referred to as the Annapurna Base Camp Trek 10 days, as the trekking portion itself spans ten days out of the full 14-day itinerary. While it's a moderate trek, beginners should prepare with basic cardio and leg strength exercises before arrival. One of the main advantages of this Nepal trek is the relatively lower risk of AMS due to gradual elevation gain.

Post-monsoon, it's common to encounter leeches on the trail—especially in lower regions—so wearing long socks and carrying salt is recommended. Trekkers are encouraged to go at their own pace; there are no strict lunch hours, allowing for flexibility and comfort. Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours is always ready with emergency support and guidance if needed.

Best Time for Annapurna Base Camp Trek
The best time for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer the most favorable weather conditions for trekking in Nepal, with clear skies, mild temperatures, and blooming rhododendron forests in the spring. The trails during this period are filled with vibrant colors and panoramic views of the Annapurna range, including Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli.

While abc trekking is possible year-round, winter (December to February) brings snowfall at higher elevations and colder nights, making the journey more challenging but incredibly scenic for adventure seekers. Summer/monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rain and leeches on the trail, often making paths slippery and visibility low. However, Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours provides professional guidance and seasonal gear recommendations to ensure a safe and memorable Nepal Annapurna Base Camp Trek experience regardless of when you choose to go.

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Difficulty
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is classified as moderate in difficulty, making it ideal for both novice and experienced trekkers. The trek gradually ascends from lowland villages at 800 meters to the Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters, giving your body ample time to acclimatize. There are a few steep ascents, rocky terrain, and narrow paths, especially between Chomrong and Deurali, which can challenge your endurance.

That said, the abc trek is not technical and does not require mountaineering skills or specialized equipment. With proper pacing, hydration, and the expert guidance of the Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours team, trekkers can enjoy the journey safely. Our team is also well-trained in first aid and Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) protocols, ensuring your comfort and safety during your Annapurna trekking journey.

Food and Accommodation for Annapurna Base Camp Trek
When booking your Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Rediscover Nepal, all your meals and accommodations during the trek are thoughtfully arranged. The food served in teahouses along the trail is fresh, warm, and nourishing—perfect to keep you energized for long trekking days. You’ll enjoy traditional Nepali dishes like dal bhat (lentils, rice, and vegetables), momos (dumplings), pasta, soups, pancakes, and even hot drinks like ginger tea and coffee. Vegetarian options are readily available throughout the abc trekking route.

Accommodation during the Nepal trek is provided in cozy mountain teahouses or lodges. While the rooms are basic—typically with twin beds and shared bathrooms—they are clean and well-kept. As you go higher in altitude, amenities may become simpler, but the warmth and hospitality of the locals make up for it. At Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours, we ensure all our clients stay in reputable teahouses that offer quality food and safe lodging, making your Annapurna Base Camp Trekking journey both comfortable and authentic.

Annapurna Trek

My fiancé and I completed the Annapurna Trek a few years ago with Milan and Ramesh. Milan was a fantastic guide and made our trip one of the best, most memorable holidays we’ve ever had. He’s extremely knowledgeable, kind and caring, always going out of his way to make the experience one to remember. I would definitely recommend Milan and his Trekking company and will be booking with him next time we return. He’s not just our trek guide, he’s also become a life long friend.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek, also known as ABC Trek or Annapurna Trekking, is one of the most popular and scenic trekking routes in Nepal. This trek takes you through diverse landscapes—from lush subtropical forests and charming traditional villages to high alpine meadows—culminating at the breathtaking Annapurna Sanctuary at an elevation of 4,130 meters. The trek offers panoramic views of Annapurna I, Machapuchare, and other towering Himalayan peaks, making it a must-do adventure for trekking enthusiasts. Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours specializes in organizing this extraordinary Nepal Annapurna Base Camp Trek with expert guidance and personalized service.

The best time for Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) season from late September to November. During these periods, the weather is generally clear, stable, and ideal for trekking, providing stunning mountain views and comfortable temperatures. While trekking in Nepal is possible year-round, winter months can be very cold and the monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rains, slippery trails, and limited visibility, which may not be ideal for an Annapurna Trek.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is considered a moderate to moderately challenging trek. While the trail is well-marked and includes comfortable teahouses along the route, trekkers need a good level of fitness due to daily walking distances, altitude gains, and occasional steep sections. Proper acclimatization and preparation are essential to enjoy the trek safely. Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours provides detailed pre-trek briefings and support to ensure a smooth trekking experience.

While it is possible to trek independently, hiring a guide and porter is highly recommended for a safer, more enjoyable Annapurna Trekking experience. Guides not only help navigate the trails but also offer cultural insights and assist in emergency situations. Porters can carry your heavy luggage, allowing you to trek comfortably with just a daypack. Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours offers professional, experienced guides and porters who are familiar with the region and committed to supporting trekkers throughout the journey.

For trekking in the Annapurna region, you need two essential permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card. These permits help regulate tourism, protect the environment, and ensure the safety of trekkers. Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours assists you in obtaining all necessary permits before your trek, so you can focus on enjoying your adventure in Nepal.

Yes, solo trekking to Annapurna Base Camp is possible, especially for experienced trekkers comfortable with navigation and solo travel. However, trekking with a guide or in a group is generally safer and more rewarding, particularly for first-timers or those unfamiliar with the region. Solo trekkers should be well-prepared, carry appropriate gear, and stay connected with local contacts. If you prefer a guided or group trek, Rediscover Nepal Treks & Tours offers tailored Annapurna Base Camp Trekking packages to suit your preferences.
